Finnish rally driver Mikko Heikkilä makes a move to the highly competitive WRC2 category for the 2025 season. The former ERC regular is set for a full six-round program with Finnish TGS Motorsport and Skoda Fabia RS Rally2.

Finnish rally driver Mikko Heikkilä has unveiled his program for the 2025 season. The returning Skoda driver is set for a full six round season in the highly competitive WRC2 category. Heikkilä begins his season from Rally Sweden in February, and the rest of the program consists of the gravel events across Europe.

-Our end goal was always WRC, and it’s coming to fruition now. After the Finnish championship in 2022 we planned for two seasons in the ERC, and a graduation for WRC in 2025. We’ve contested WRC events every year, with Sweden, Latvia, and Finland last year, but now we’re here to calculate points too. We’ve been hard at work the whole off-season thus far, and we’re extremely happy to compete at the highest level of Rally2, Heikkilä rejoiced.

Heikkilä will be competing with the Finnish TGS Motorsport, a team familiar to Heikkilä led by a former WRC factory driver Toni Gardemeister. Taking on the co-driver duties in the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 is fellow Finn Kristian Temonen.

-Returning to TGS is like returning home, and I’m happy to be competing with Toni. Our past includes three full seasons in the Finnish national championship culminating in gold in 2022, and last year we competed in two rallies with Toni including WRC Sweden. Kristian has proven to be the right man for the spot. Changing back to Skoda was a combination of multiple factors, and Fabia RS has been proven to be fast and reliable in all conditions, Heikkilä explained.

TGS Motorsport CEO Toni Gardemeister is delighted about Heikkilä’s return to the team.

-I’m happy to have Mikko return to his home team to chase WRC glory. Mikko has the “sisu” needed for WRC, and he knows how to gather the whole team behind him. We’ve achieved a lot together in the past, and we’re ready for more, Gardemeister said.

Heikkilä’s goals for 2025 reflect on his competitive outings in Finland and Latvia, in which Heikkilä finished second in WRC2.

-As we saw last year, when everything goes as intended, we can have a race with the factory drivers. Our main objective is to extract all the potential out of myself and the team, and to convert that potential to as good results as possible. A medal at the end of the season would be a cherry on top, Heikkilä promised.
