Heikkilä to star in Rally Show in Romania – “The concept sounds like fun”

Mikko Heikkilä competes this weekend in Romania after being invited to take part in the Mamaia Rally Show event. Competing with Rally2 machinery, Heikkilä is ready for the one-on-one play-off event format.

Finnish WRC2 driver Mikko Heikkilä sets out for an all-new experience this weekend in Romania, as the Finn is starring at the Mamaia Rally Show in Romania. The three-day event is held with a concept different to more traditional rallying as the event focuses on one-on-one driving.

-The event sounds fun and interesting – something different. The driving is focused on one rallycross-like stage with a one-on-one play-off format, with the slower one being eliminated. Co-driver is changing for every round with a VIP guest, and the event’s finale is held on Sunday, Heikkilä explains.

Locally the Mamaia Rally Show is a household name with a loyal fan base. Heikkilä welcomes the event’s differing concept.

-The concept sounds like fun and again, different to what we are used to. Locally the event is well-known, and we are happy to be there, Heikkilä said.

The one-on-one event type is also a good opportunity to upkeeping the driving touch during the slower time of the competitive season.

-It felt nice to receive an invite, and it’s good to return in competitive form after our disappointing Secto Rally Finland. It’s a good fit to our calendar as well, since it’s been a bit more empty since Secto. We’ll be competing with a Rally2 car, preferably Skoda, but the car we’ll be competing will be decided closer to the event, Heikkilä ends.
