Competing in the European Rally Championship (ERC), Finnish The Racing Factory driver Mikko Heikkilä will not compete in the upcoming ERC Barum Czech Rally. Reigning Finnish Rally Champion is set to focus early on the 2024 season. Competing with Skoda in the European Rally Championship, Mikko Heikkilä is absent from the entry list of the Czech round of the championship. Making his debut in the highly-competitive championship this year, Heikkilä's year started with bad luck on the last stage of the opening round of the championship in Portugal, where the Finn was leading a field of national and international level star drivers before suffering a puncture. Heikkilä is set to put full focus into the 2024 season early, with a goal of contesting for the championship after his first year of learning. "We've made a decision to start the preparations for the 2024 season early. There isn't any major underlying issues behind the decision. Our debut season in the ERC has been more challenging than anticipated, but we've learned a lot from every event; lessons we'll use in order to prepare for the upcoming season, Heikkilä stated. When all the pieces have fit the puzzle, Heikkilä has been on par with the leaders, and the pace of the Michelin-driver has been duly noted across Europe. -On gravel, we have solid pace, but this season the stars haven't aligned for us. We've suffered punctures, technical issues and other, unrelated issues. Of course, we need to look in the mirror as well, mainly when it comes to Rome and Swedish rounds. We'll take a deep breath, and put our full focus into building solid foundations for the future, Heikkilä said. In his most recent event, WRC Secto Rally Finland, Heikkilä suffered issues with his gear lever on the Friday's opening special stage and a further puncture on Friday morning. Despite setbacks, the Finn climbed up all the way to fifth in WRC2 category.
