Mikko Heikkilä is third overall in the Bauhaus Royal Rally of Scandinavia held in Sweden. The Finn is running 12,7 seconds behind the lead as the fastest Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 runner of the rally.
Mikko Heikkilä and Kristian Temonen are running third in the third round of European Rally Championship, Bauhaus Royal Rally of Scandinavia. Driving a Step Five Motorsport-fielded Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, Heikkilä is 12,7 seconds behind the lead before the final day of the event. Heikkilä started the event cautiously on the Super Special Stage on Thursday, but pushed hard on Friday winning stage 7 and taking the third spot on the standings.
-It’s all a qualifying stage, and the margins are really small. I can’t remember last time it’s been this close, so many drivers compete for the same tenths of seconds. It’s been a really good day from my point of view. Our goal was to perform on our maximum, and we are pretty close to that if you don’t count the few small places where we could have braked later or gone without lifting, Heikkilä recapped his Friday.
On the rally-ending Saturday, Heikkilä expects the same kind of fighting for every tenth of a second as on Friday. The final day consists of almost 108 special stage kilometres before the competitors reach the finish at 10 past 5 PM local time.
-Surely tomorrow it’s as close at it was today, so we just got to push. The weather seems to be varying a lot, and when the forecast says it’ll rain it won’t and vice versa. It’s more or less same for everyone, so no complaints. Let’s keep pushing, Heikkilä said.
