Mikko Heikkilä is competing in his home WRC event, Secto Rally Finland, this weekend. Driving a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 in the WRC2 category, Heikkilä’s last event in Latvia ended in P2 in category.
Mikko Heikkilä, co-driven by Kristian Temonen, set out to continue where the Toyota pair left off in WRC Latvia, in which the pair finished P2 in WRC2. The Step Five Motorsport’s Toyota-driver aims to extract the maximum pace from himself in the upcoming weekend.
-It would be easy to sum up since we last finished second, we’d be first this time, but it’s never going to be that easy. We are on the same starting line as everyone else, and we focus on our own performance and extracting the maximum of ourselves, Heikkilä said.
This year’s Secto Rally Finland includes both classic stages and new parts for the Finn. Driving his fourth WRC Finland, Heikkilä is anticipating the legendary Ouninpohja stage making its return this year.
-For sure, there are stages familiar to me. Sahloinen-Moksi is a stable part of Jyväskylä, and Päijälä and Västilä are identical to last year. The legendary first section of the Ouninpohja stage is new to me, and the whole stage will be something special, Heikkilä explained.
Competing in front of his home crowd is a special experience for the ERC-regular Heikkilä.
-WRC Finland is definitely the main event of the year for me, and the atmosphere is like no other. There are so many people on the stages and the roads are amazing, if we’re counting out the super specials, which are not to my liking. It is something else to be able to drive on an event like this, and a massive thank you goes to everyone who made this possible. I’ve been here since I was a little boy and dreaming about having a go here. This year we’re on the start line for the fourth time, and I’m so happy about it, Heikkilä smiled.
Secto Rally Finland is held in Jyväskylä, Finland from 1st to 4th of August. The event consists of 20 special stages and 305,69 special stage kilometres. The rally is shown via Rally.tv livestreaming service.
