Heikkilä aiming high on Estonian gravel

Mikko Heikkilä’s WRC2 season continues this weekend with the Delfi Rally Estonia. Heikkilä aims high in the Baltics supported by TGS Motorsport’s big efforts between the events.

TGS Motorsport’s Skoda driver Mikko Heikkilä and co-driver Kristian Temonen set out for glory from the fast gravel events of their WRC2 season; WRC Estonia and WRC Finland. With Delfi Rally Estonia first on the schedule, Heikkilä aims to use his experience from previous years to his advantage.

-Last year we were competing for a podium before technical issues with the car. With a background in Finland’s national championship and its fast gravel stages, these faster events feel more familiar compared to the slower Central European gravel rallies, most of which I’m doing for the first time. Especially as we have experience here from two previous years, I feel like the starting point is a bit better, Heikkilä said.

After this weekend’s event the WRC caravan moves to Finland for the Secto Rally Finland in the beginning of August.

-We aim to finish as high as possible, as usual. When going into Estonia I’m not thinking too much about Finland, but of course if we succeed here then it’s a good groundwork for the home event. Both of these events are very important to us, so success here is key, Heikkilä explains.

Last time out in Sardegna Heikkilä was forced to retire due to an accident. Whilst the crew was unharmed in the off, the Fabia RS Rally2 required a new body.

-A massive thanks to the TGS Team, especially to Miro and Mika. Their effort was massive, as the schedule was still quite tight. Now everything is as it should and we are ready for Estonia. A big thank you to everyone involved in one way or another, Heikkilä thanked.

Delfi Rally Estonia is held from 17th to 20th of July in Estonia. The event consists of 20 special stages and 308,35 special stage kilometres. The event is shown live at Rally.tv
